Powerful Partnerships in Johnston County , North Carolina. NC State University & EFNEP. EFNEP Educator: Patty Saltpaw Recovery and Promoting Healthier Lives  EFNEP classes were held at a local organization that provides services related to substance use treatment for pregnant women and mothers with children under the age of 12. The facility offers a variety of programs with the goal of supporting individuals in their recovery and promoting healthier lives. The impacts of EFNEP extends beyond statistics, as evidenced by the heartfelt testimonials of program participants. “ I really enjoy EFNEP every week. Especially when it comes to making healthy snacks and recipes for me & my child, and teaching me how to save & prep meals. I find myself trying to save myself prepping meals more and giving my son more fruits and veggies and I will continue doing this. “  Over the past three years, 46 individuals have been served through this partnership, resulting in life-long positive impacts for them and their children. “I am so thankful for you. I truly love how you taught us to be a better cook. I loved the recipes you taught us. I also love how you taught us to have our meats a certain temperature. Thank you for teaching me how to be more healthy. I greatly appreciate it. The things you taught me will live with me forever. I’m forever thankful and grateful for you and your teachings.”  “I just want to say how thankful I am for your classes. You have taught me how to read labels & look at serving sizes so I can save money. You’ve also taught me how to implement fruits & veggies into my children’s meals so they can be healthier. You have taught me so much needed information to be in my own and implement healthy meals into mine and my children’s life.”  These quotes demonstrate the tangible and lasting impact of EFNEP on participants’ lives, from improved cooking skills and healthier eating habits to better food budgeting and overall well-being. Reaching the parents: Title 1 schools   Title 1 Mandate: Schools receiving Title 1 funding must implement parent and family engagement strategies. •Outreach to all parents •Programs and activities •Written policy linking family engagement to programs •Minimum 1% budget allocation  Funds can support collaboration and services ( transportation and child care)  Our collaboration: We partnered to leverage Title 1 resources, meet their goals, and expand EFNEPS ‘s reach. School’s role :  •Handled EFNEPS class marketing and scheduling •Provided class venue and supplies •Offered childcare during classes  EFNEP’s role:  •Deliver core EFNEP curriculum with engaging in person taste tests.

Our EFNEP educator, Patty Saltpaw, had an opportunity to present two of her partnerships at the EFNEP Southern Region meeting that was held in Raleigh, North Carolina, on April 23, 2025. She presented in the session titled ‘Programs of Distinction’ that showcases innovative and unique programs that have significantly enhanced outreach and impact across our communities.
