This summer Johnston County 4-H is offering a variety of fun and educational activities for youth of all ages. All programs will be limited and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Your child’s age is determined as of January 1, 2022. If a program is full and you would like to be added to a waiting list, please contact our office at 919-989-5380.

How to Register?

The first step to participating in our 4-H program is to create a 4-H Online profile. Once you have created a profile, login and click ‘events’ on the left-hand side of your screen and then you will see all of our Johnston County 4-H Summer Fun programs listed under events and you will be able to register for the programs you would like for your child to participate in. If you have issues registering your child, please call our office at (919) 98-5380 and we can register your child for you.

How to Pay?

This summer we will only accept payments by exact cash only or check. Once you have registered for 4-H Summer Fun in 4-H Online you will be sent an invoice to pay for the classes you have signed up for. All summer workshops are non-refundable. 

Due to popularity and high demand, if your child’s invoice has not been paid by May 6th, their spot will be given to the next child on our waiting list.


2022 4-H Summer Fun Programs

4-H Jr. Master Gardener  – June 13-17 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

  • The cost of this program is $25 per child & is limited to 12 participants.
  • In this program youth will learn about vegetable gardening, from seed to harvest and preservation. Youth will also visit and participate in two community gardens in Johnston County during this program.

Beekeeping 101 – June 15 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 

  • This program will be in-person at our Extension office. The cost of this program is $20 per child. This program is limited to 15 participants.
  • In this hands-on program youth will learn the basics of beekeeping and inspect a beehive. Youth will also learn how to extract honey from a hive and leave with their own honey to take home!

4-H Farm to Fork – June 21-23 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

  • The cost of this program is $25 per child & is limited to 12 participants.
  • This program is for youth ages 8-18 years old.
  • In this program youth will travel to different farms across Johnston County and learn how foods are grown and harvested. Youth will then prepare fun recipes using ingredients from each farm!

    4-H Horse Camp – July 11-12 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

  • During this two-day workshop youth will learn about horses, how to care for them and be given the opportunity to ride.
  • This program is for all youth ages 8-18 years old and limited to 12 participants. The cost for this program is $10 per child.

Carolina Mudcats Baseball Game – July 13 from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

  • Join us for a fun day of baseball at a Carolina Mudcats Baseball game! The game starts at 11 a.m.
  • The cost of this program is $20 per child and open to all youth ages 8-18 years old. Limited to 10 youth.
  • Youth will need to bring money for lunch/ concessions they would like to purchase.

    4-H Cloverbud Crafts – July 14 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

  • This craft workshop is for youth ages 5-7 years as of January 1, 2022. Youth will learn how to make several crafts that can be entered into this year’s 4-H Fall Showcase.
  • This event is limited to 10 participants and is $20 per child.

4-H Congress – July 16-19 

  • North Carolina 4-H Congress is an event planned by elected 4-H Teens with leadership from the state 4-H Office. This is a youth development leadership, citizenship and life skill development program that includes fun workshops, dances, and so much more. Please call our office at (919) 989-5380 if your child is interested in going to 4-H Congress. This event is for all youth ages 13-18 years old as of January 1, 2022.
  • Cost is TBD.

 4-H Archery & Air Pellet Camp – July 21 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

  • Throughout this program will learn the basics of archery and how to use an air pellet – including target practice.
  • This program is open to all youth 9- 18 years old.
  • This program is $15 per child & limited to 15 youth participants.

4-H Cloverbud Cooking – July 26-27 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

  • This cooking program is open to all cloverbuds, ages 5-7 years old as of January 1st, 2022.
  • Youth will learn basic cooking & baking skills and make several delicious recipes. This program is $20 per child & limited to 9 youth.

4-H Cooking in the Kitchen – July 28-29 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

  • Throughout this 2 day program, youth will learn several cooking skills and different recipes that they can make at home!
  • This program is $25 per child and open to all youth ages 8-18 years old. Limit 12 participants.

Sewing 101 – August 1-2 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

  • During this program youth will learn the basics of sewing with a sewing machine and learn several different sewing techniques.
  • This program is for youth 10 years and older and is limited to 6 participants.
  • This program is $20 per child.
