Farmer Health Summit Coming in January!

— Written By

Did you know that farming is SIX times more dangerous than any other occupation in America? Putting their lives on the line to feed and clothe the world each day, 64% of southeastern NC farmers have high blood pressure or pre-hypertension, 24% have diabetes, and 64% are overweight or obese putting even more strain on the back and joints. These numbers are even higher in younger farmers.

N.C. Cooperative Extension in Johnston County is hosting a Farmer Health Summit to help our farmers face these issues, increase their productivity on the farm, and save money in health care costs. Join us on the following dates in 2019:

  • January 14: Opportunity for FREE blood pressure, weight, and blood sugar screening with a brief educational session on healthier dietary habits
  • January 28: Skin cancer screening & resources available; Farm Stress Management discussion
  • February 11: Let’s talk back and joint pain
  • February 25: CPR Training for on-farm situations with testimony

This is a family-friendly event. There will be youth activities each night to correspond with adult sessions. Meals with be provided. Sessions begin at 5:30 p.m. each night. Please try to attend all sessions. Prizes awarded each week!

Register your family by calling 919-989-5380.
