Pesticide Exam, Safety Recertification, and Upcoming 2018 Events

2018 Pesticide Exam-August 8
North Carolina Pesticide exams will be offered on Wednesday, August 8th at the
Johnston County Ag Center. To take the exam, bring valid ID (Driver’s License)
and a calculator. Please arrive by 12:30 p.m. The cost of the Private applicator
exam is $10.00, core exam is $50.00, and any commercial category is $20.00.
Study materials can be ordered online.

Corn Field Day-August 2
North Carolina Cooperative Extension is inviting all growers to attend a Corn
Field Day August 2. The meeting will be held at 2001 Timberlake Road,
Franklinton, NC, and start at 6 p.m. Topics will include varieties, population,
fertility, and weed and insect control. Register by July 30 by calling 919-496-
3344. (1 Hour of NODX pesticide credit will be offered).

2018 Hemp Field Day-August 6
The 2018 Hemp Field Day will be held at the Piedmont Research Station, 8530
Sherrill’s Ford Road Salisbury, NC on August 6. The meeting will start at
8 a.m. and end with lunch.

2018 Stevia Field Day-August 9
The 2018 Stevia Field Day will be held at the Horticultural Crops Research
Station in Clinton, NC on August 9th. The meeting will start at 7:30 a.m. Details
about the field day as well as the link to register. This field day will
cover weed and disease management, breeding, and other updates in NC stevia

Johnston County Soybean Field Day-August 28
North Carolina Cooperative Extension is inviting all growers to attend a Soybean
Field Day, August 28 at the Livestock Arena, 520 County Home Rd, Smithfield
NC. Meeting will begin at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast. Extension specialist and agents
will discuss soybeans weed, insect, and disease management. The meeting will
end at 10:00 a.m. after a field plot tour. Anyone interested should call the

Johnston/Wilson County Cotton Field Day-August 30
North Carolina Cooperative Extension is inviting all growers to attend a
Cotton Field Day August 30. The meeting will be start at 1209 Bay
Valley Road, Kenly NC at the Farm shop of Joey Holland. Dr. Guy Collins
will discuss cotton defoliation and variety trial information. The meeting will
start a 6 until 8:30 p.m. A sponsored meal will be provided. Anyone

offered).

2018 Peanut Field Day-September 6
The 2018 Peanut Field Day will be held on September 6 at the Peanut Belt Research Station,112 Research Station Lane, Lewiston-Woodville, NC. The meeting will start at 8:30 a.m. and end with lunch.

Safety Recertification Class-September 6
The last safety recertification class (V class) for 2018 will be offered on Thursday, September 6 at the Johnston County Ag Center, starting at 6:30 p.m.

2018 Cotton Field Day-September 13
The 2018 Cotton Field Day will be held on September 13 at the Upper Coastal Plain Research Station, 2811 Nobles Mill Pond Rd, Rocky Mount, NC. The meeting will start at 8:30 a.m. and end with lunch.

2018 Agri-Business Tour-September 20
The Johnston County Ag business tour will be held Thursday, September 20. It will start at 7:30 a.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Johnston County office. We plan to visit Crooked Row Farm in Kenly, and then leave for a Hemp production operation in Durham and Person County. Anyone interested should call the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Johnston County office at (919) 989-5380 by September 14. The cost will be $10.00 for members’ guest and $20 for non-members. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Forestry Landowner Meeting-November 6
North Carolina Cooperative Extension in Johnston County will host a forestry landowner meeting. The event will start at 6 p.m. at the Johnston County Ag Center and will run until 8:30 p.m. A sponsored dinner will be provided. We will
